A warming pad helps to prevent your pets body temperature from dropping while under anesthesia. A ventilator along with a cardiac defibrillator are there to treat any problem that should occur. Surgeries range from castration and ovariohysterectomy (spaying) to orthopedic and most other soft tissure surgeries. A 2.0mm, 2.2mm, 2.7mm, and 3.5mm bone plating system is on hand as well as intramedullary bone pins and external Kirschner Bars to repair broken bones. An Ophthalmic surgey pack is on hand to treat most eye injuries or problems. All instruments are properly cleaned and sterilized with steam or ethylene oxide. Monitors are placed in each surgery pack to insure sterilization. All staff in the surgery suite wears caps and masks and the surgeon wears sterilized gown and gloves. Intravenous fluid pumps are used in surgery and in the critical care/post-op area to ensure that the proper amount of fluid is given. Three infant incubators are available for C-section puppies/kittens to maintain their body temperatures until going home with their mother. Pain control is an important consideration in surgery of dogs and cats. Since they are unable to voice their concords, pain medication is given to all surgery patients. In cases involving the nervous system, CSF Taps with fluid analysis and myelograms can be used to identify a prolapsed disc or meningitis. A BIRD respirator is available for the treatment of respiratory infections. A positive flow isolation room is used when hospitalizing any pet with a communicable disease. Critical care may include placement of an esophagostomy tube or gastrotomy tube for providing nutritional support for patients unable to eat on their own. Long term care for cats with chronic renal failure may include placement of a GIF-Tube for the giving of fluids at home. Chemotherapy Treatment is available for pets with certain types of cancer. Sometimes a Vascular Access Port may be implanted to permit easier access to a vein. Percutaneous biopsies can be performed in certian situations to obtain a biopsy without having to go through surgery.
